Saw both these patterns today at a tying symposium. The pattern is meant to be a chironomid/midge/buzzer pattern. Also, you can see the one with the deer hair wing is similar to the Quigley Cripple, minus the hackle. I think the pattern with the CDC wing would be a great pupa/emerger pattern. Don’t grease the CDC.
