Can you feel the reflection of radiant heat bouncing off the dry grass and hard packed soil? The wind is so hot you sweat. Shelter along side this old homestead would only be a slight respite. When it is so hot in the shade that you don’t want to move…it is hot even in the shade. Right now, that sounds good….but only if it doesn’t rise much above 100 degrees. I have become a bit of a fair weather fly fisher: don’t relish ice in the guides and my snot freezing nor do I much like the crushing heat that makes each drawn breath akin to camping buy the open oven door. Just enough exposure to such extremes allows for dramatic stories, but that is all I need these days.
