I previously posted about the worthiness of this pattern on lakes. I remarked upon how much the top mounted red barbs glowed with the fly wet and in the water. Further, I wondered if the barbs were side mounted if it would enhance the visibility of the ‘hot spot’, the contrasting hackle barbs. I believe it does. Also, hot orange washed out and disappeared. Green and Red held their color and contrasted nicely. I imagine that I could experiment further with the spectrum and use purple and blue as trigger points. For now, green and red look good. Tie these and let me know what the results are. I used the Tiemco straight eye hook and I know some worry about losing fish. I have not really noticed this problem but the hook can obviously be changed and the pattern still remains sound.
Also, pic wise, I incorporated some side lighting (toward the eye/right side) and experimented with the f-stop (f22). I immediately noticed I liked the lighting but I need a small tripod because the hand held mode is just too jittery..most shots did not turn out. Learning as I go.
