You use all manner of hackle, consume eggs, grab that drumstick and use many sayings without gving much thought as to where those sayings came from: the super bird…no not the Eagle, but rather the Chicken. Give a look at a few well known sayings:
Scratching out a living, Walking on eggshells, Get your hackles up, Fly the coop, Rulin’ the roost, Chick (young girl), Chicken feed, Birds of a feather flock together, Coming home to roost, To chicken out, Pecking order, Henpecked, Don’t count your chickens before they’re hatched, Something to crow about, Chicken shit (ok, I will admit t hat Bull shit and Horse shit are right up there in this category) and Ruffle your feathers.
There are dozens more…not a cat or dog or any other animal has generated as many sayings. It is Interesting the chicken has generated so many sayings attributed to human behavior.
