Life’s Karma: This morning I was writing about the lovely April Vokey and her plans in Iceland, as well as a piece by Adrienne Comeau re April’s ways on and off the water. A few hours later, my son (Tony) and I are winding our way through the the fishing and hunting displays at the Portland Sportsman’s Show when low and behold there she is…alone…April Vokey. I walked up as if approaching a celebrity and introduced myself and Tony. May I just say that, my AVS aside, this young woman is one special lady. Self assured, gracious and extremely comfortable in her own skin, this ‘gal’ is, as touted, special. Natural beauty, a winning smile and an ease in talking.
She was tending a booth to highlight her new business, ‘flygal Ventures’ (http://www.flygal.ca/) and to encourage fly tiers to donate steelhead flies to the Steelhead Society of B.C. for a fund raising auction. These auctioned monies would be used to promote the restoration of steelhead habitat and runs (prior details at http://wcflies.com/blog/2009/01/calling-all-steelhead-fly-tiers/).
Of interest: April is helping lead the way in recruiting women to fly fishing. However, as a guide she is more than amenable to guiding men on the rivers and has many male clients. So, this would afford an opportunity for you to learn the B.C. waters and be guided by a knowledgeable and very pretty young woman…indeed prettier than a picture can convey.
Ok, so I don’t appear to be a stalker, I won’t write about April for…well for awhile. AVS, you know.
