“El film es un viaje alrededor de algunas de las explotaciones a cielo abierto con cianuro que las corporaciones han instalado en el noroeste argentino –San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca, Tucumán Salta – y la reacción de las poblaciones aledañas frente a la contaminación. Se trata de una obra coral contada por sus protagonistas: ingenieros, maestros, chacareros, indígenas, vecinos, ambientalistas, que hacen contundentes denuncias sobre el despojo y cuentan conmovedoras historias de resistencia a la depredación de las mineras. Estimulados por la lucha de los asambleístas de Gualeguaychú contra la instalación de la fábrica de papel “Botnia”, en el Río Uruguay, el movimiento ambientalista logró que en siete provincias –Chubut, Río Negro, La Pampa, Mendoza, San Luis, Córdoba, Tucumán- se prohíba la minería a cielo abierto con sustancias tóxicas.” Mendoza Fly Fishing
“… my only regret is that you, as much as we and thousands of other fishers around the world have to be giving the fight against mega-projects that threaten the sustainability of resources. It seems to be one of the new responsibilities of the modern fisherman, to defend the waters of the advance of “progress”.
Is there a need for mineral extractions on the level it occurs around the world? Is it inherently evil in our eyes by the industry alone? If there were no contamination would it still be unacceptable because of the eyesore? What are the legitimate needs and levels of need around the world? Is it possible to mine without contamination? Is this simply about anti-big,anti-outside conglomerates, have’s and have not’s? Does fly fishing trump minerals? Just questions I ponder.
