I know a man, elderly now, who only fished one pattern for years for trout…a Joe’s Hopper. He worked for he US FOREST Service and was stationed around the country. Re of where he lived, the Hopper was his fly. By today’s standards it was simplistic…kind of like a Montana Stone Fly, Brook’s Stone vs. a Kaufmann Stone. But, the man caught trout from Oregon, Washington, Georgia, Virginia with the only the Joe’s Hopper.

Well, I have not mentioned terrestrials very often, but all land born insects that get near the waters edge can become fish food: bees, ants, beetles, spiders, grasshoppers, crickets, moths. I do tie and fish ants.
