Commercial studs take a lot of wear and tear because they are made to take the abuse. A regular sheet metal screw I don’t feel would last more than a couple of trips. I have 2 pairs of Chota Studded felt boots and I’ll never look back. Studs are cheaper and more durable in the long run in my opinion. If you fish a lot then durability matters. I fish 125 days a year and will only have to replace my studs twice a year. Just my .02
