The Brassie has been around awhile and a great midge/chrionomid pattern. It will sink like a rock with the wire body, and if you use the bead head, even more so. Adjust the wire and bead size to the hook size. The wire body provides the segmentation. It is a similar style body to the Copper John nymph pattern. This midge pattern could be ties with out the bead. The peacock herl thorax fill in where the bead was with more pronounced thread head. The bead head is tied off behind the bead, where as, with the non-beaded pattern the fly would be finished off at the eye….the more traditional end point.

DAmn you got a nice wrap on those! Your wraps are consistent and tight. Most of the ones I have seen are sloppy. The are quite nice!

Thanks! I used a (dare I say it?) magnifying lens. I did something that I usually don’t do…I wrapped and unwrapped if it did not set right. As simple as that seems, it is not a habit I have frequently adhered to or developed. I taught it to students, but haven’t always practiced what I preached. Also, the tie in point was not at the rear but up the shank…the wire was then extended rearward and over wrapped with thread…then I wrapped to the front…thus avoiding the fat ass bump I usually get. I am not happy with the peacock herl…it collapsed and I would have liked to have had more flare…To be honest, I tied those and a few others for the lens. Once the lens was on the flies, several did have a gap here or there. Out of the dozen or so tied, I came up with maybe half that were perfect for the lens. I wouldn’t be as fussy otherwise. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

Are you tying left handed by any chance? I don’t care if they were for the lens, they are very nice, the ones I have seen are really loose and not something I would show anyone! Mine come out consistently tight but, I am a lefty, and they tend to wrap tighter overall.

No, a rightie…I do use a rotary vise. I have never used it that much, but the magnification lens did help, although I did not enjoy wearing it…disorienting.
