Hairbrain Emerger: The hook can be a curved shank or straight shank hook. A size 14 here. A lighter wire hook should have been used. I used a clump of brown hackle fibers for the tail. The abdomen of the fly is brown 6/0 thread. The abdomen was created by first tying in three peacock herls by the butt section and just ahead tying in a dry fly hackle quality grizzly hackle. The peacock herl was wrapped forward (herls twisted and wrapped together) around the butt sections of the hackle, up to right behind the eye. Then the hackle is densely wrapped to create a bristly appearance. The thread is finished off to complete the fly.
