The Dangerous Sanctity of Fly Only Waters by Henry Miller

To be honest, I have not been afforded the opportunity to fish the fabled waters, just yet. I have fished fly only water and fortunately have never encountered the problems Mr. Miller has. But, I would match his experience to a crowded coastal river in Oregon gear guys stand shoulder to shoulder and cast over cast, hook ups, tangles, and a only a semblance of courtesy exists. Heaven help the fly angler should he inadvertently tangle with with a #5 Mepps. Season openers on lakes and avoiding trollers can also be an adventure. But, of course, what Mr. Miller is also talking about is that the perceived expectation for uniqueness and purer air can be denied anywhere. Even on certain fly fishing only waters. Thank goodness not all of them.
