I have always found such passages intriguing. Something akin to entering heaven (or something less fitting); new beginnings, excitement, escape. I wonder if the architects of such designs even noticed such things. I came upon this photograph while perusing Rachel’s Booksnob Blog.
That lead to, for me, a wondrous discovery: The Highgate Cemetery in North London. The Google Image link may be a bit pretentious, but I find this one of the most intriguing series of photographs to explore. What history, what passages of life and death. Escapes, new beginnings, endings.
Take a few minutes to explore the history and images of Highgate Cemetery. Many notorious, laborious and the glorious are buried there (was that cheesy or flowery?).
