There are many thousands of fly patterns and derivations of those. So when I was perusing the Frontier Angler’s 2013 catalog and saw “Smidget…The most effective fly pattern of all time.” I thought I’ve never heard of this pattern…a magic bullet for trout! I better check it out. Of course, this is the creation of the owner of Frontier Anglers, Tim Tollett. So, hype? It looks like a nice pattern and not too difficult to tie.
Tim Tollett’s Smidget Fly Pattern
I imagine it is as claimed, a very productive pattern. Here is the video with Tim Tollett tying the pattern. This is a pattern tied on a 16 or smaller hook. You may want to start slightly bigger at first. Have sharp scissors for the McFlyfoam. Don’t use to thick a strand of McFlyfoam. Use dry fly quality hackle.
