I have mentioned this in important bits and pieces the last few years: there are impressive blogs and sites about fly tying and fly fishing emanating out of South Africa. The writings have a flavor of history, refinement, properness, detail that is often missing these days from fly fishing writings…to include mine. I enjoy the efforts of these authors and their gentlemanly ways. No ‘bumism’ here.

Tim Rolston, Peter Brigg, Andrew Fowler & Ed Herbst are but a few notable names to start your exploration of South African fly fishing/tying wisdom. Each of these fly fishers point the way to equally interesting characters in the sport. I think you will agree there is a different vibe to this region. It is thoughtful and easy on the mind. Thanks for providing everyone with the “heads up” about SA fly fishing, we indeed have some very accomplished anglers and great writers and bloogers and it is most generous of you to bring that to the attention of the masses. One doesn’t necessarily think of South Africa as a fly fishing venue but there is some great angling to be had and of course in reference to the previous comment we don’t have to deal with too much snow or frozen rod guides.. 🙂

Loved your observations… Indeed there are some wizened and thoughtful characters (Some are downright eccentric!) in that magical land. Interestingly, since I started metiefly the highest number of visits come from there. I think it could be that they are eagerly watching to see how London’s weather affects my hunger to get down to my lake… 4degrees and 17mph winds tomorrow certainly won’t dampen my spirits!
