Most fly fishers, today, practice their own form of ‘fish love’ via catch and release, photography/art and their forms of habitat enhancement/preservation.
On a greater scale are the ocean fisheries that are reportedly in crisis. Fish Love is a movement whose mission is to turn the tide on dwindling yields of ocean fish and move toward sustainable yields in the decades to come.
“OUR MISSION
Fishlove wants to end to over-fishing in Europe by 2015 so that fish stocks can recover to above levels that can produce the maximum sustainable yield by 2020.”
Using the provocation of stinky fish love, (the movement hopes to play off PETA’s skin exposure), the hope is to draw your interest long enough to read the message and their sense of urgency. All things considered, I like my fish love imagery better, but the problems remain for the oceans in many regions.

My question is what is being done about the crisis closer to home. The disregard, lack of due diligence harms fish and people closer to home.

A gazillion Fed, State and Local regs exist depending upon your locale. The additional question Felix is do they work? Often is individuals carrying out their own missions and getting results in watersheds or bodies of water where they can make a difference. If time and life allows, get involved.

Thanks SB. Yes I am involved as much as possible, but to me the regulations can only go so far. Not enough funding for enforcement of the regulations. The selfish people trashing the waterways, killing fish unnecessarily, fishing in waters they should not be More education, more funding and more media showing the damages being done in the waters and fish would be helpful. Possibly like the smoking commercials- except it is the effect of waters and fish. Anyways -off my soap box…it is too bad that Europe is having issues. But WE need to focus on our own land before helping those across the ocean.

Oh totally agree. Highlighting far flung crises is not meant to distract from our own waterways, often very close to our own doorsteps. Thanks for thoughtful comments.
