Low Head Dams: Not as prevalent in the Western U.S., but they are a concern in other parts of the country. I am not sure about around the world. Great post, and very timely here in Eastern MA, where we have many of these dams, and our waters are running high.
It seems like every year we read about deaths resulting from this. We try to warn/educate the public, but there’s always someone who shrugs off the warnings because they think they know what they’re doing.
It is very deceiving to see how little surface turbulence there can be above these very strong undercurrents.
