I feel particularly satisfied with this image today. This Clematis was goners. Trampled and crushed beneath debris and seemingly torn beyond repair. One single strand of tattered vine remained and maybe only a few inches in length. Last Spring, I cleared the debris away, put up a small shelter to keep stuff away from the base of this plant and gave some nutrients and water. Eventually the smallest green shoot came from the tattered vine. Slowly, shyly, the plant reached out and up a trellis I had put in place..the trellis seeming to be an overstated invitation for bigger and better things to come. The Clematis has reached upward and embraced the trellis and yesterday, finally, the first bloom emerged. Yes, basking in the sunshine. First time in years.
