For me, it is a mixed concept. I fish a lot, rarely kill, but do sometimes. I never hunt but appreciate the stalking, the process, the kill even…for meat, for true sustenance. But, an elk or deer head on a wall for some is paying homage to the animal, but for some, only to themselves. I chase my tail on this one.
Yes, I’ve been around it all my life, tho we do not hunt and I taught my boys, if they killed it, they had to eat it! And it stuck! Seeing lifeless heads on walls, when knowing the majesty they are in their natural element, is a sham, a pure ego-trip on the part of the one with the shotgun. On the other hand, the deer population can get out of hand. Thankfully we haven’t seen that in many years here…. There are the coyotes and mountain lions, who keep things within balance. So, if you kill it, you must eat it! 😉
It never fails to shock me, dreading deer season each year. It’s about to start here…. Ugh. I try not to look in the back of vehicles!
