I have to agree, that despite myself, I probably succeeded better then than I would today. Less parental involvement + less critical thinking has resulted in a weakened outcome in some instances. Couple that with group think, blips and blurps of ‘news’ and the depth of thinking is quite shallow I think.
Very insightful, living with my daughter and three grand kids, the educational system, public, is crippled with rules.
A class with say four challenged kids, maybe ADHD a, or some developmental issue, the teacher has to make a separate plan, visit that plan and then implement that plan. MOurfocus kids like this could eat up ten, twenty or more per cent of time in that classroom.
Another issue is the current testing. Scheduled are ten large tests which they say first graders have a 75% chance of failing consume much of the teaching.
Is preparing for ten test teaching, educating?
what does. A teacher do, say a fourth grade teacher who inherits a class who can not read?
Just a stamp of creation in time.

Speaking of education, with far less tools (the Internet, iPads) we received an educations superior than most today.
Maybe reading, writing and arithmetic are not important anymore
