Not sure if regional difference in word usage: here (western U.S.) midges are chironomids and don’t bite. Mosquitos are part of same bug family (Diptera I think). England sometimes calls our midges ‘buzzers’. They look much the same actually. In the pic there were midges, cassis and mayflies. Mosquitos were along the shoreline for sure. Probably more bug info than you cared to know 🙂
