I, at first, was going to call it a Blue Jay. When I searched for info to include re blue jays, they looked different. Searching further, I found the Steller’s Blue Jay is a Western U.S. bird, if the info was accurate, and the traditional Blue Jay is seen more in the Eastern U.S. Not sure of the accuracy of all this but this is the only type of ‘Blue Jay’ I’ve ever seen in Oregon.
(and I have seen several of them flocking to the nearby oak tree in late summers for acorn treats here in upstate New York, so your information is most likely accurate)
On a side note, I have always wanted to visit Oregon, I hear it is beautiful! What is the best time to visit ? Any pointers.
Well, I have lived here my whole life, so I see the beauty in all the seasons, but….that said (and right now the grey days have clouded my thinking enough that we are headed South to sunshine next week!), I would come here from June 1 to October 15. It usually stops raining in June with some certainty if not sooner and the late Summer time of Sept/Oct (Indian Summer can be quite beautiful too) Fall foliage is less spectacular here. Winter skiing might be a draw at nearby ski resorts. Each part of the state has its own beauty and seasonal shift in some ways too. I can always provide more info if you pick an area to visit too. Thanks!!
Great photograph. We have Blue Jays around my place, I’ve never seen one that color before ! Great shot.
