I came upon this view of multiple nests high in the trees. The foliage has not yet fully evolved, so the nests were quite visible against the bright, grey sky. Also, visible were a few Eagles landing into the nests. I couldn’t get close (maybe a couple hundred yards) and I did not have the right lens. But, I snapped a few shots to show the scope of Eagle’s Heron’s nests. I do hope to return with a more powerful lens and find a way to be closer to the trees. (Update: Comments suggest these are Heron nests as Eagles would not nest so close together….the Eagles in the trees might have been visiting the Heron habitat? That bottom pic does have the look of a Heron. This is what happens when a novice puts a few observation together…still fun)

That looks a lot like a heron rookery. We have many along the rivers here in Missouri. May be eagles hanging around but have never known them to nest in groups. if it is a group of eagles that is very interesting. Thanks for you photos I enjoy them daily. Along time back I found this place for fly fishing but since it’s change I still have to visit,

Well I wondered about that as there were a gazillion (well hundreds in the fields a few miles away} My confusion might be the Eagles flying into that tree pod and landing onto the nests. Now I actually only saw 4-5 Eagles and they all flew into those nests or fluttered amongst the branches. I am planning to get back out there early enough to see if anything more visible coming or going off the nests or in the trees. The Herons and Egrits were quite prominent in the fields nearby so this may be perfect update info. Wonder if Eagles and Heron could co-habitate in a tree line like that? Really appreciate the information!! 🙂

Hi there. These are blue heron nest as eagles don’t nest that close together but blue herons do.

OK that is what Marty said….I saw many Heron nearby in the fields. Also, I was just going to respond additional to Marty, that I saw, nearby, much larger ‘piles’ of branches/twigs like nests, which were definitely separated out.
