OK, I have to match this nymph. I am not a fan of the pheasant tail nymph and yet it is always represented as a go to fly, yet it does nothing for me aesthetically or functionally. Also, I am tired of the Hare’s Ear. But, I need to be better at perfecting these basic flies. I tie a bunch and then three years later, it is time to tie a bunch more. I need to once again perfect the tie and that usually takes me 4 or 5 flies..then I level off and tie it pretty good for a dozen or so and then it falls off again. My periodic tying is not a good way to maintain my skill….my imagination is there but I don’t sit down enough and play out the concepts. I need to do that more.
