“The Tellico Nymph has been around for most of the last century and is probably the most popular of all the locally tied flies to have originated in East Tennessee.”

I recall an amazing trout for the Crooked River (24″) being pulled from the area below the Lower Palisades in 19…, well back aways. That fish was caught by a friend and released. The fly was the Tellico. I often forget about this fly. It use to be in fly fishing catalogs like Kaufmann’s…but, it is not seen as much any more. It utilizes one of the most remarkable tying materials: peacock. The shell back in traditionally turkey but another of my all time favorite materials: pheasant tail could be used for the tail/shellback as well. Tied in size 14 to 10, this is a good fly in streams and stillwaters.
