The McCandless family put this plaque inside the bus in 1993. It includes Chris McCandless’ last words, found inside his journal: Chris, our beloved son and brother died here during his adventurous travels in search of how he could best realize God’s great gift of life. With his final message, “I have had a happy life and thank the Lord. Goodbye and God bless all,” we commend his soul to the world.
Just watched the McCandless movie again. A good movie to critique on one’s own re: following a dream, parent-child relationships, dropping out, minimalists, regressives, survival and how a single life can raise questions on many levels. Won’t say it was misspent or wasted or question mental health. If you have not seen it, you should.
He was so amazing…I’m reading the book and wow…Its just amazing to me what he did! 0.o

I’m going to do the same thing as he did, i am sick of this money money money, and work work work world. In peoples eyes they see a world as buildings, homes, and shopping centers, but really the world is beautiful plains, moutains, streams and desserts. And what Chris did to him wasnt stupid like other people say, he needed it and he changed us, even into the future how he can still touch peoples hearts.

Chris Mccandless was looking for something totally different emotionally than Richard Proenneke as proved by his writings. He was a sweet boy and kindred spirit.

I think no matter what, he was very lucky to be able to stare into his own endless forever. We have been conditioned to be afraid of everything and we need brave souls to go first and show us theres nothing to be afraid of. Rest in peace Chris.
