The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure was a well attended event today in Portland, Oregon. From a personal perspective, this year I can say “In celebration of two breast cancer survivors” and in another, but no less important cancer variety~category, “In memory of a my mom.”  It touches us all, sooner or later. Most often we hear about it as it brushes near or far. But, when it reaches in and seizes the mind, body and maybe soul of a dear one you enter a whole new world. That world swirls about you everyday and the fear, anguish and drawn out journey is tough on all, but never as hard as the courageous women (and sometimes men) that endure.

“About 40,000 people — including about 3,500 survivors — streamed through downtown Portland this morning as part of the city’s 19th annual  Race for the Cure.”  Oregon Live
