Last night, I ventured out to the rig for something and upon coming back toward the front door, I noticed the porch lights and white front door were covered with hundreds of these smallish flies. They looked like mid size midges, but they fluttered about quickly so I could not tell. As I walked inside, I considered how many I must have escorted inside. This morning, I noticed quite a few had made their way through the house to the kitchen sink and some water in a bowl, setting in the sink. So, I saw one nearby and snapped a photo. Don’t believe it is a midge. Any one know what variety of fly this is? Cranefly? Close as I could come with some research at Troutnut.

It’s almost certainly in the order Diptera, but beyond that, your guess is as good as mine. If you describe them as ‘smallish’, though, they’re probably not crane flies. The crane flies we get around here (Pennsylvania) are ‘largish’, with wings alone being about an inch long, and legs about as long as that, if not longer.

You may well be right Mark. I tried bug ID sequences of so many legs (6) wings, antenna etc. The ‘smallish’ size is by hook reference not a size 18 or smaller, but bigger, say a size 14 for the abdomen. The Cranefly that have always attacked my front lawn have seemed bigger when I have seen them fluttering away. So, was only hazarding a guess. Pesky little guys that I have only seen the past week during the evening hours near the front porch light. Thanks for the input.
