With all the end of the world and the Mayan Calendar ‘predictions‘, 2012 promises to be an eventful year for the doomsayers. I noticed on the news this morning that NASA reportedly had an early warning system via GPS stations all over the U.S. in high risk areas.

I started some cursory research and once I waded through the UFO, Mayan Calendar and Zombie Invasion (maybe those are Occupy peop’s) I came upon the NASA GPS press release. Actually, upon reading the press release, NASA is, I believe, suggesting the GPS sensors are not for predicting earthquakes, as the news suggested, but rather better determining the intensity and location for post earthquake responses by emergency management.
Another study was just released suggesting the ionosphere may hold the key to pointing to earthquakes in advance of the event. Scientist are divided, of course, but some suggest that electromagnetic disturbances in the ionosphere have arisen just prior to sizeable earthquakes.
Pick your poison to worry about: Mayan Calendar predictions, Big Government, Global Climate Change, Polar Bears, Genetic Engineering of our Foods….I personally would like to see improved abilities to predict tornados, better water quality management (but not oppressive, obscene reg’s) and to know if I would be safe on Bora Bora if the Mayan Calendar predictions are in deed true.
SO HOW ABOUT THESE EVENTS IN MID SEPTEMBER 2012: MAYAN WALL MURAL FOUND IN HUMBLE FAMILY HOME IN GUATEMALA & BRACE YOURSELVES….GUATEMALA VOLCANO ERUPTS! SPOOKY COINCIDENCE?

Just so you know, the calendar you have put up on this site is not the Mayan calendar, it’s the Aztec Calendar. And yes, they are different.

If I am not mistaken, I believe I have shown both the Mayan and the Aztec. I at first mistakenly showed the Aztec, and I do believe the source of that called it Mayan, but then later I added the Mayan…unless that source is wrong too?

Bora Bora…Hmm…looks a bit small…what if the oceans rose from the climate change, and then you were suddenly engulfed by a giant wave? And what if everyone heeds your advice…now we’re all heading to Bora Bora. We’re going to run out of natural resources FAR too fast! Noooooooooo!!! And what about Nostradamus and his doom’s day predictions???!
My favorite part of Doom’s Day Predictions: somehow, when the date comes and goes, we hear all about it in the days before, but everyone always seems to be strangely silent about it after the day comes and goes and nothing happens. Sometimes I wonder if people so sure about the end of the world wake up and feel a little disappointed to see blue skies and sunshine on the day the world was supposed to end.

This is off topic, but it reminded me that I threw a wine bottle with a note in it, off a boat, about 25 miles off of Bora Bora. This was about 6 years ago. On Xmas Eve, more than a year later, I received a note from a boy who went to school on a neighboring island and found my bottle/note. He sent me a satelite photo of the fringing reef where he found it, his teacher helped him and they did it as a class project. Somewhere I have the photo/note. If I find it I’ll scan and post. I think there was an old WWII airstrip on the atoll. It was just a coincidence? Odds defying occurance. I’d use any excuse to go back to French Polynesia……Doomsday, holiday, vacay, any of these work for me.! 🙂

I think that is totally on topic! Did you explore that region and if so what was your most favorite spot? Love that whole bottle/message idea. What a special story that is!

Yes we went all over. We loved Raiteia and Huahine. Bora Bora is beautiful but much of the coral is dead. Rarotonga in the Cook Islands was incredible. We were scheduled to go back but someone got the flu. I’ve been eyeing this supply ship that takes a small number of tourists to lesser visited islands. Check it out if you’re interested:

It will be interesting to see how many do the odd stuff in preparation to even terrible things…remember the Hale Bopp Commet Cult checkout by that group?
