All the more dreadful that the news article states that they were worth $20,000, not a lot said about the fact that 70,000 creatures struggled for life for 15 minutes only to succumb due to the drunken actions of this numpty. The reason I am a vegetarian is simply because of the dreadful way we treat the animals that we aim to consume.

Well, I imagine I will continue to consume various meats for a remainder of my life. That said, I agree. I am not conflicted by it, but my compassion button may be out of order. Recently my family happened by a turkey farm in the Dakotas. At first it was comical how they all turned this way and that and gobbled in unison. The worker told them there were 200,000 turkeys in that long barn. Freaked them out. Slaughter houses, feed lots, hooks etc. are sobering. I don’t pacify my guilt with free range, organic or other hipster machinations to feel better about killing the animal. I just believe it is the ‘natural’ order of things if humane and not for mass consumption…there’s the rub…mass consumption. My dad could not stomach eating chickens as he could never remove the old saying ‘chicken running around with it’s head cut off’ from his mind. He had killed too many as a boy. He ate the occasional steak and some fish. No chicken or turkey.
