The Crisco Candle is touted to be a very long burning candle (over a month by some estimations). Some try to debunk the method (Snopes). I have not tried this. Survival sites show this option for off the grid/emergency consideration. It seems plausible to me if one considers the history of Crisco and how it all got started…interesting reading. Makes my arteries quake when I consider how much my family used this in lieu of lard while I was growing up.

Crisco Candle, Proctor & Gamble

Burns fine…and long. Not finding it as smokey as cheap candles. I’m wondering why I didn’t do this much sooner! You can get the wicks at a craft store and make them in a variety of sizes. I’m also considering scenting mine. Good luck!

Seems like it would burn a bit smokey — as it would if if you accidentally set it on fire in a frying pan.
