Beautiful natural environments are photographed by John P. Newbury and displayed within his journal…JPaulNewbury’s Journal. John is also a superb fly tier and you can see his skills in his A Fly Tyers Journal.
John not only has a keen eye for nature and the tied fly, but also has thoughtful commentary on the environment, habitat and culture.

I like your blog and the way you write.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who posts constantly. I feel that i appear to be overzealous. Which i am. But its good to see another avid poster on here all the same. I look forward to reading more of your blog posts.
Beautiful photos, by the way.

I would like some comments on tippet rings. I do a lot of nymphing in montana, but blood knots are not favorite. I just discovered them a book i purchased called Dynmanic Nymphing

Hi Dick,
I have never used them and actually forget about their use. I stopped with blood knots sometime ago and use a Surgeon’s Knot with out complications. I imagine they have their place if drag is not an issue.

If you do use them let me know what you think for nymphing rigs or perhaps a photo or diagram of your rigging would be appreciated.

I love tippet rings! In fact, I have a single one that I have been using for several seasons now. It saves my main leader from getting too short from days of intense deep nymphing. If I get snagged while nymphing, I usually lose only my tippet and the ring is always there waiting to affix a new length of tippet.

John do you have any preferences for brand names?

I go by John P. Newbury. I thought I would separate my identity between the world of fly tying/fishing and art & photography. Having two identities became too confusing, so I just go by John P. Newbury now.
Thanks Gary.
