The fly sets atop the water. A fish, a big fish, has been splatting the surface taking the fluttering Caddis from the surface. I watch the fly through the viewfinder (odd word) and wait. The take comes, explosively. I snap and the image captured is not of the fish, as I had hoped, but of the dozens of water droplets, originally propelled upward, now dropping upon the surface. The small waves and surface vibrations from the breeze are equally beautiful to see.

“To paraphrase a deceased patriot, I regret that I have only one life to give to my fly-fishing.” – Robert Traver
“Fly fishermen are born honest, but they get over it.” – Ed Zern

Nice shot! At first look, I thought they were fish!

I love watching your on the water experiments with fishing and the camera. I am always worried those big fish are going to snatch that rod right into the water though… 🙂
