I don’t recall seeing in the news accounts, but after they removed the ankle chains the elephant made some sounds for the better part of a half hour either in relief or some such response. Such animal cruelties are an abomination this day in age. It is odd, I can support hunting in certain instances (only harvesting for true food) but housing animals in such a manner seems horrific…different degrees of poison some would say. Our zoo here in Portland is noted for its pachyderm care.
My heart hurts for all the animals who suffer, and although I don’t eat meat, I can sort of agree with you about hunting for a specific reason (maybe) but our world is so cruel. Men, women, all the same…
Broke my heart to read this! I think it is equally important to ensure the officers whose palms were surely greased to turn a blind eye, get an equal number of years in spiked shackles.
I, too, agree with you. The chains should be placed on the legs of his former owner. This man and
his associates should be jailed and made to beg for their bread.

Pervasive I am sure. And yes it would perhaps solve some of this if the chains were on the other ankle.
