for gardening, for flowers, for the results of months, if not years, of effort. One of the things I so enjoy is living in a neighborhood with folks that want to share, with humility, their gardens and the results. Bouquets are carried up and down the street as gifts, individual blooms are displayed. Even the other night an elderly Italian lady brought a large hibiscus bloom that had fallen to the ground to our house because she found it pretty and hoped we would too. Some are true Master Gardeners, others like me putz about doing our best, studying and planning to do better next year. All agree the cycle is changing. One can sense it in the air. Some plan for next year with optimism. Some, I imagine, pray they will be here next Spring for yet another round. A bit somber today…those little, old ladies do that to me.

I have seen the color but never the size of this flower…a good 6″+ across the face of the bloom. Kind of like a mega holly hock or hibiscus.
