A somewhat comical newsreel commentary/video from 1940 of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge Collapse…a puppy was left in the car. Galloping Gertie history.
I am trying to imagine our present day news being presented with accompanying dramatic music.

No the car and dog did not make it…that is according to news pieces….Personally, I would have been carrying that dog hell or …well big winds and a buckling bridge.
“Tubby, a black male cocker spaniel, was the only fatality of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster; he was lost along with Coatsworth’s car. Professor Farquharson[7] and a news photographer[8] attempted to rescue Tubby during a lull, but the dog was too terrified to leave the car and bit one of the rescuers. Tubby died when the bridge fell, and neither his body nor the car were ever recovered.[9] Coatsworth had been driving Tubby back to his daughter, who owned the dog. Coatsworth received US$450.00 (US$7,600 with inflation[10]) for his car and US$364.40 (US$6,100 with inflation[10]) in reimbursement for the contents of his car, including Tubby.”

What a sad event for Tubby! I agree on carrying the dog out. Thank you for the details. You made this a heart wrenching story in my mind :(.

Oh sorry Sioux! I probably shouldn’t have mentioned that part. A bizarre event for sure.
