I was reminded today, by Derrick Knight, that often our own backyard has interesting subject matter for the camera. I had put the yard/beds to rest (sort of) last Fall. As I walked about the backyard today, I noticed the rapidly emerging pesky weeds, a few rose buds battered by downpours, overall cleanup that should be done now, and a burst of colors that will soon be gone. These early Spring colors, on an otherwise gloomy, grey day lifted the spirits for sure.

Whatever is that glorious tree?

A Dogwood (upper right). Not sure of the variety. Magnolia (lower left) Both so pretty. Wish they didn’t bloom early like Camelias and Rhody’s. Thanks for the visit!

Dogwood (white flowers) and redbud bloom very early in the Smokies. I am very north, eleven miles south of WI border. It was always a joy to head south early spring. From melting snow to glory in a few hours.
I must research that tree. Amazing color. Magnolias pretty soon hereabouts.

My Mom’s original family was from Turtle Lake/Almena and further south around Athens/Marshfield.
