Nor did I until researching this plant in my backyard. My Aunt planted it many years ago. It was developed in Minnesota, at first called Northern Lights and then hybridized with Golden Lights.
Now this flower looks very native to PA. I believe we had several of these when I was growing up. Are they pretty fragrant when in full bloom? The “dust” as I like to call it from the inside flower would go everywhere! Oregon is such a beautiful part of the country!
You might be thinking of a lily…these are a azalea with moderate fragrance. They were developed in Minnesota as a hardy variety of Azalea/Rhody. The lily had adorned the tip of my nose with a smudge of ink that is darn near impossible to rub off at first! But, then again maybe there is a PA variety too.
I’m going to have to look this up (not a plant person.) Ya, the inside had a yellow/orange dust, and if you got it on your skin it would stain it. Maybe I’m just crazy!!! We started to bloom here, but a cold snap came in.
Yes, my experience with that stain are lily’s. I am sure there are others…as I said I once took in the fragrance of a lily and had orange smudge all over my nose at a flower show! quite a spectacle. learned my lesson on that one!
