Rotary dial phones, “party lines” which weren’t an excuse for drinking but a shared line with a neighbour. Telephone boxes, and operators who would connect you manually by moving the wires around on a board in the exchange. I even remember phoning a friend in Jeffrey’s Bay and the operator saying “Are you looking for PJ?, he isn’t at home, he is at Trish’s place I’ll put you through there”.. now that’s something that the smartest, smart phone can’t do. 🙂
Ha…that’s funny! I missed out on the operator/connecting/crank the handle on the wall mounted phone…but I did grow up with party lines, gossip, eavesdropping and waiting to use the phone. One good techno improvement for sure.

I do remember, good old days, looking at that wheel spin to the right with the “breeeee” sound and then all the way back to the left. I´m an oldie….
