With excited anticipation, I drove to a remote area to capture the alleged grand, blood moon & eclipse. Hmmm? May I just say ‘whatever’. I say that as a result of frustration at my own poor planning. My heretofore stout tripod broke. A wobbly exercise ensued of attempting to stabilize the camera/lens for the shot. The barely visible dark red orb rose to the East. I tried all the settings imaginable. Nada, nunca, zip, zero, expletive. At best, I got this…a blurry stack of pancakes at best. The tripod was a disappointment.
I retreated toward civilization. Apparently, many had ventured out to view the much touted event. Hundreds of cars moved back toward the metro area…and, they drove as if possessed, as if evading heat seeking missiles…a full moon influence no doubt.
Once back in town, I found a suitable spot to photograph the now full, non-eclipsed moon…my front yard! I found an old tripod and used it to take the beautiful full moon….sans blood.

Had a lot of trouble getting this blood moon and eclipse too. Without a tripod I get a lot of blurred shots also.
I think you did a good job anyway. I posted a short post on blog of my photos of this event.

Better prep on my part would have surely helped.

this eclipse we had perfect skies for perfectly normal exsanguinated lunar exposures.
no blood at all.
as the eclipse waned we got blinding white edges and a dark center.
I did try longer exposures and got shots similar to your initial offering…good color and blur.
then it struck me the moon was moving. my camera wasn’t.
no fixing that without technology i’m not buying any time soon.
other than the frustration I assume you had a good time, yes?

Oh I did and the crowds were an interesting mix of theater. When the moon was in its ‘blood’/eclipse phase it was very dark and almost invisible to the naked eye…and it was moving/rising rather quickly.

At least your pix were not as blurry like mine are. I have bad camera shake.

I got a nice shot as the moon rose, woke to a peculiar darkness and presumed it was cloudy. It wasn’t it was perfectly clear , I got the tail end ! 😂

At least you had a clear view. Cloudy in our area.

That’s true…a bit of haze on the horizon, but later it was quite clear.
