This photo tugs at my heart…..you can feel the love these parents had for their infant son. The toy truck breaks my heart. Is the cemetery still cared for??? It looks a little wild….reminds me of the cemetery in rural southern Wisconsin where my ancestors lie……..
This year, very overgrown and forlorn. We stop every year headed to fish and always find interesting history. This year, I would say 80% of the markers were covered in weeds and brambles of some sort. I am sure it is all volunteers that maintain it and the dependable ones may have had other duties. Hope you are well!!
Sad to see the grave of a baby or small child. I know life had to be hard in the late 1800’s and I am sure many children often died young. Nice photo with the little tin truck.
Thanks…I saw a lot of graves in this old cemetery for that name so must be family in the area that would put a little piggy bank car on that old marker.
Wonderful composition.
I just can’t imagine what it would have been like for those parents. I know in that time period there were many losses like this and sometimes multiples in just one family.

Yes, very tragic. I have seen quite a few like that…two children sharing same headstone, dying a few days apart.
