“I have absolutely no pleasure in the stimulants in which I sometimes so madly indulge. It has not been in the pursuit of pleasure that I have periled life and reputation and reason. It has been the desperate attempt to escape from torturing memories, from a sense of insupportable loneliness and a dread of some strange impending doom.” Edgar Allan Poe (Ever wonder if he was Ed Poe to his friends?)

Have loved Edgar Allen Poe since I was in high school decades ago. Was an avid reader of his literary works. Was just reading about his life the other day – such a sad, tragic life. People often said he had to be insane to write as he did and I often thought he was quite an unusual person.

I have loved his works as well and I think the quote bespeaks of his struggles.
