My uncle Felix took this image, up the Columbia River Gorge, using a vintage folding camera. As today, it was a beautiful outing to head up the Gorge on the Old Scenic Highway. Friends & family, from out of town, were always taken ‘up the Gorge’. Here Multnomah Falls is partially shown, with the Benson Bridge ( a footbridge) separating the upper/lower portions of the falls.

Lovely image of Multnomah Falls! I have a somewhat-related question for you. This photo was taken in 1942. In the 1940 census, Felix had two employees, Leroy and Samuel Literski, living with him and working for him as roofers in Portland. Their younger brother, John Stephen Literski, was my grandfather, and he eventually came out to Portland as well. The story of John coming to Portland is murky, and he passed away years ago. Might you have any information on the Literski brothers who worked for Felix?

I don’t have any really…My Aunt Tillie..Felix’s wife, mentioned the Literski’s. I heard the story of Felix coming out at behest of Mr. Fry and then Felix recruiting others. Have you researched genealogy sites? Or just want to know the more human narrative of what he did etc? I know it was a great opportunity business wise. Felix first moved with Tillie to Compton, California….then they moved north to Portland, ORegon to roof barracks and businesses to the North. I believe they did live at a boarding house on NW Northrup (NW Pdx) that my Aunt Tillie managed and then worked out further in NW Portland at Fry Roofing. I never recall meeting a Literski as a little guy. Felix died young (58 y/o, 1962)
