Before propane stoves, there were white gas stoves on the end of the picnic table. Before that my Dad cooked over an open fire on a make shift grill. Great memories learning camp craft or taking the family to the Wallowa’s, Ochocho’s, Cascades, Crooked R., Snake R., B.C.
memories camping…

I never really liked dragging white gas around so used wood which I hated marginally less
when propane came around I bought a two burner Winchester stove that the boys have borrowed for at least twenty five years and we still use from time to time
then a one burner propane that I used a lot….even at work
I was working a flood and pulled duty in a very hard to reach part of our territory
so i brought a cooler of delectables and my little stove
for lunch I propped open the doors of my truck for lunch and the aroma bought in my new neighbors…luckily I had two bottles of gas
I suppose we worked that area for three or four fourteen hour days and that little stove cooked a lot of meals and coffee
one of my sons has “borrowed” it for about ten years now
we’ve switched to a gas griddle in the last couple of years to cut down on the amount of cookware we have to carry and clean up…it is a work in progress but really has excited my wife
my fondest memories of outdoor cooking is listening to the raccoons trying to open the latches on the stove at two in the morning or braver coyotes sniffing around out side the tent or camper for tasty morsels…no bears here in the great American desert 😉

Gosh that looks very hi-tec.
The wife of a good friend of mine cooked full English breakfasts on a propane single burner in the middle of the desert Rub al Khali or Wahiba Sands, always a trest.
Me,on my own just took oranges and Trailmix (nuts and assorted dried fruit) but always had coffee and some cans of Guinness 😎
